St. Joseph’s Cathedral in the Catholic Diocese of Malakal marked Easter on Monday, April 6, by celebrating with inmates at Malakal Central Prison. The Mass was presided over by the Vicar General, Father Stephen Osher Oman, alongside members of the Parish Council and other parish executive committees.
This initiative reflects the Diocese’s commitment to sharing the joy of Christ’s resurrection with prisoners and joining them in the Easter celebrations.
In his sermon, the Vicar General emphasized that the resurrection of Christ is the foundation of the Christian faith. He noted that although some people attempt to deny this truth, the disciples bore witness to the resurrection and proclaimed it to the world. He added that the Church’s celebration today continues that same faith.
The Vicar General encouraged the prisoners to remain patient, reminding them that challenges such as imprisonment are part of life and that truth ultimately prevails.
In his remarks, the prisoners’ representative, Mr. Paul James, expressed gratitude to the Catholic Diocese of Malakal for its continued care and for celebrating Easter with them. He also appreciated the prison administration for its support and congratulated fellow inmates who received Holy Communion during the Mass.
