A delegation of clerics and social workers representing the Catholic dioceses of Torit delivered a congratulatory message to the governor of Eastern Equatoria.

The Vicar General Celestino Muras, who led the team, explained that the message was delivered on behalf of the entire Catholic community, Emmanuel Radio reported.

The message begins with the words “The old has gone and the new has come”, a quotation from the Second Letter to the Cotinthians.

Fr. Martin Vuni, diocesan programme manager, and Fr. Joseph Ukelo, former vicar general, were among the team that delivered the congratulatory message.

Governor Louis Lobong praised the contribution of the Catholic Church towards the success of South Sudan’s independence.

He recognized that the Diocese of Torit greatly helped the civil population taking many times the role of the state during the war.

Mr. Lobong urged the Church to continue promoting reconciliation with individuals and among communities as well as political actors for mutual development of the state.
