Lakes State women are ready to celebrate the birth of their new nation.
Country Director of Women for Women International in South Sudan, Karak Mayik Denyok, told Good News Radio that the women belonging to her NGO in Lakes State were looking forward to celebrate independence and they prepared songs and cultural dances about the big day.She added that the women will celebrate in their centres, inviting the local communities to join them in the great celebration.
Ms. Mayik said she dreams of a democratic and peaceful nation in which the weapons are handled by the army and not by civilians.
She called on political leaders to sacrifice individual interests and be actively engaged in the common good and on nation building.
Ms. Mayik encouraged the women to consult with relevant institutions about their rights, like her own organization and the media.
She also advocated for equal opportunities for both men and women, arguing that men and women supported each other during the many years of struggle.
Women for Women International is a NGO based in Washington DC, USA, to provide women victims of war and other conflicts with tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty into stability and self sufficiency.
