Author: Joseph Manyang- Rumbek – Staff members at the St. Peter Claver Computer and Ecological Centre have completed their annual safeguarding refresher training, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to child protection and student welfare.

The one-day training brought together eight participants, including interns and instructors from the mechanics, driving, solar installation, computer studies, and English language departments.

The session focused on child protection policies, professional standards of conduct, and practical strategies to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.

In addition to the in-person workshop, staff members have undertaken online safeguarding certification courses and continue to update their knowledge to address emerging challenges in child protection.

Fr. Lucas Philippo Ng’hwagi, Director of the Centre, emphasized that safeguarding remains a core principle of the institution. He noted that the annual training ensures both students and staff are protected within a secure and respectful environment.

According to Fr. Lucas, the Centre’s mission goes beyond academic excellence to include the overall wellbeing and dignity of every learner.

He further stressed that every individual deserves respect and protection, adding that the institution promotes a strong culture of safeguarding so that all members of the Centre community feel safe and valued.

Athiei Dut Malual, an English course facilitator, said the refresher training serves as an important reminder of safeguarding policies and the professional responsibilities expected of educators.

He noted that maintaining a safe and respectful environment is essential not only for students but also for staff and children within the institution’s surroundings.

Educators at the Centre reaffirmed that safeguarding is a shared responsibility and pledged their continued commitment to ensuring that every learner studies in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.
