More than 7,000 displaced people from Abyei reached Wau since the end of May and the Western Bahr el-Ghazal government availed them a camp in Bar Yar.
South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (SSRRC) is responsible for registering the IDPs and verify their origin and status.
Matthew Chan, who is SSRRC Executive Director for Western Bahr el-Ghazal, told SCR News that people started arriving from Abyei on May 24.
He said so far 7,336 IDPs reached Wau and more were expected to come especially after last week’s attack.
Mr. Chan added that the local government and different organizations were supporting the displaced with food and non-food stuff, water, sanitation and health services.
Some of the displaced have been brought to the camp by IOM, while others reached Wau by themselves.
Most of them are women with children.
Angelina Ngor arrived to the camp one week ago. She said she came on foot with her four children via Turalei, while her husband, a soldier, is still in Abyei.
Ms. Ngor said the conditions in the camp were good, though she had to wait for some days before getting the material to build her shelter.
She added that her family was safe but she was worried for her baby refused her breast and she did not find any milk to feed the infant.
Ms. Ngor said she wished the situation in Abyei could improve soon in order to be able to home.
