The UN confirmed that six shells fired by SAF yesterday landed 150 metres away from an UNMIS base in Agok.

UN spokesperson Martin Nesirky said UNMIS was verifying the details of the attack.

SAF claimed the shelling was part of an exercise, while the SPLA accused the northern army of selling its positions and intimidating the local population around Agok, in South Sudan.

The UN urged SAF and SPLA to stop military actions in Abyei that threaten the UN and the local populations in the area.
