ABYEI OCCUPATION IS KHARTOUM’S PAYBACK TO MESSERIYA

The invasion of Abyei by the Sudanese Army is a payback by Khartoum to the Misseriya for the holy war they carried out in South Sudan during the 21 years of the civil conflict.

This is the position political activist Isaac Kungor Kenyi shared with journalists today.

He said Khartoum is looking ways to fulfil the promises the government made to the Misseriya and Masalit Arab nomads for carrying an intensive jihad in South Sudan during the civil war.

Mr. Kenyi explained that Khartoum promised the Misseriya, Masalit and other Arab tribes grazing their cattle in Abyei a full control of the area after they fought a holy war against the south.

Mr. Kenyi said the oil is only a subordinate factor to the Abyei problem.

He added that Khartoum may feel it betrayed the Misseriya and dishonoured the oath it made should the government let Abyei go.
