A UN official said northern forces killed two local UN staff in front of UNMIS troops in Kadugli, South Kordofan, on Monday.

Emmanuel Timothy, who works for the World Health Organization, told SCR news over the phone from Kadugli UNMIS compound that two Sudanese citizens working for the UN were killed by the Sudan Armed Forces and Popular Defence Forces.

He said that Juma Bahar from the security department and Nimeri from the contracted sector were killed under the very eyes of Egyptian peacekeepers who were meant to protect them and did nothing.

Mr. Timothy added that UN local staff mainly from Nuba and South Sudan is not allowed to leave the camp, only Arab staff can move freely.

The UN officer said the UN international staff was evacuated from Kadugli but the government did not allow the local staff to leave.

He mentioned that the local UN staff has gone for two days without food and water within the UNMIS compound.

Mr. Timothy said more than 7,000 people were camping around the UNMIS compound daily and the number was growing.

He added that the displaced are mostly from the Nuba Mountains and a few from South Sudan.

Mr. Timothy said more than 100 people have already been killed and their bodies lay unburied on the streets or in the houses.

He added that Arab militias were involved in heavy looting of houses that belonged to Nuba people.

Mr. Timothy said the affected are mostly children and women who have no food, water and shelter.

He added that the fighting was still going on and heavy bombardments could be heard in Kadugli.
