The head of the Episcopal Church of the Sudan (ECS) issued yesterday a strong statement condemning the violence and bombardment of civilian settlements in South Kordofan.

Archbishop Daniel Deng Bul says his Church was also victim of violence and destruction in South Kordofan with some pastors arrested and tortured without reason or charge.

He added that Kadugli’s ECS guest house and All Saints Cathedral have been looted and torched.

Archbishop Deng says the Church and its personnel were deliberately targeted by the northern army.

He noted that the Sudan Armed Forces are following a policy of ethnic cleansing by targeting the indigenous African and Christian population.

Archbishop Deng condemns the government’s use of force against its own people, the air raids and the arbitrary arrests in South Kordofan.

He urged the International community to intervene quickly to stop the fighting and the killing of innocent people and protect Christians from persecution.
