The escalating violence against civilians in South Kordofan state is a major humanitarian disaster with an estimated 300,000 people cut off from relief, said World Council of Churches’ report.

The UN estimated that 40,000 people have fled fighting between Sudan Armed Forces (SAF), and SPLA in Kadugli and Diling.

Sudanese Air Force planes are bombing highly populated areas in Kauda, Heiban and Um Dorain.

MIG fighter jets were used to terrify the displaced people seeking shelter at UNMIS compound north of Kadugli.

Humanitarian efforts in and around Kadugli was hampered by the fighting and the presence of a large number of SAF soldiers.

The report pointed that several eye-witness accounts indicate that SAF troops are carrying out “house-to-house” searches in the towns, pulling out suspected opposition sympathizers and killing them on spot.
