The Southern Sudan AIDS Commission in Lake State in collaboration with Christian Health Association of Sudan has rolled out a HIV and AIDS campaign to reduce the prevalence rate which is alarming in the state.

SSAC acting director Peter Gum said his commission in partnership with CHAS and fourteen other implementing partners are scaling up activities to create awareness and offer services on HIV and AIDS.

Mr. Gum added that SSAC in Lakes State is also working with UNICEF to create awareness on HIV and AIDS, carry out peer education and promote outreach programs with an aim of combating the pandemic.

He said many people still have no basic knowledge about the virus.

Mr. Gum added that this prompted the Government to take up an initiative to seek out for a lead agency to asses and spearhead the implementation of the HIV and AIDS programs in the State.

He called on many people to come out and go for voluntary counselling and testing in order to bring down the prevalence rate.
