The Chairperson of the African Union Commission will undertake a working visit to Sudan from June 6 TO 7, 2011, to meet officials in Khartoum and in Juba.
Dr. Jean Ping’s visit aims at encouraging the SPLM and NCP to overcome the current difficulties in Abyei through dialogue.The AU chairman also intends to persuade the two parties to conclude the negotiations on someoutstanding aspects of the CPA and the post-referendum arrangements.
Dr. Ping pointed out that he will discuss with the leadership in Khartoum and Juba ways to de-escalate tension in Abyei Area.
He will also travel to El Fasher, North Darfur, to meet with the senior officials from UNAMID.
