Militias loyal to a former SPLA general planted the landmine that killed a number of people yesterday in Unity State.
A Church source said four people were killed and one seriously injured by a mine blast along the Mayom-Abiemnom road.Mayom County Commissioner Charles Machiene Kuol told SCR News over the phone that three people died in the explosion and two sustained serious injuries.
He accused militias loyal to Peter Gadet of planting mines supplied by Khartoum in his County.
Mr. Machiene said the militias are being helped by Khartoum to bring insecurity into the area.
He added that they are planting anti-personal and anti-vehicle landmines along the roads of Mayom County endangering civilian lives.
Mr. Machiene said SPLA forces were deployed along the Mayom-Abiemnom road to protect civilians.
He added that the militias plant the mines under the cover of night.
