BUSINESS COMMUNITY MOBILIZES TO ASSIST ABYEI VICTIMS

South Sudan business and labour unions have mobilised traders all over south Sudan to donate assistance for the displaced by the conflict in Abyei.

Simon Akuei Deng is the secretary general of the South Sudan Chamber of Commerce. He told SCR News that the business community has already put together 300 bags of flour and some cooking oil.

He added that almost 20 thousand IDPs live under trees air with no shelter, food or clean water.

Mr. Deng invited NGOs and civil society group to join and contribute to the relief campaign to assist the Abyei victims.

Mr. Deng said the campaign is mobilizing the business people all over South Sudan.

At least two trucks have already left for Turalei, in Warrap State.

Mr. Deng said the government promised to collaborate in the campaign to send relief stuff to Abyei but it will take some time due to bureaucratic processes.
