A group of experts from South Sudan and England are discussing culture and nation building through two public lectures.

The public lectures on Culture and the Nation in South Sudan are organized by the Centre for Peace and Development Studies of the University of Juba and the Rift Valley Institute.

Yesterday a panel of four experts debated with the public the theme Tradition and Community under the topics Why Culture Matters; A History of Chiefs, Arts and Culture; and Making Federalism Work to Save the New Nation.

The lecture hall was packed to capacity.

Today another panel will present and discuss The Erosion of Tradition; Gender and the Future of the New State; The Role of the University in Nation Building; Witchcraft, War and Returnees; and The Conservation of South Sudan’s National Archives.

These five topics are part of the theme Debating the Nation.

The lectures take place at the University of Juba main Campus and start at 5 PM.

The attendance is free of charge.
