The mass return of Southerners has surprised the people in Northern Sudan.

Father Jospeh Logura Dominic, a native from Torit, was in Khartoum untill he moved recently to Renk in Upper Nile State, Emmanuel Radio reported.

He told the faithful at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Torit that the massive movement of Southerners towards their homelands caused some difficulties in Khartoum.

Fr. Logura said the returnees also faced problems as the authorities did not allow them to travel with big quantities of food.

The cleric added that the returnees need prayers from the people of South Sudan because many will not be able to leave the North before Independence Day.

Fr. Logura revealed that attempts to shift the returnees’ transit through Renk were not any better due to lack of facilities at the location.

Some four million Southerners sought refuge in the North during the two-decade long civil war.

They started coming south after the peace was signed in 2005.
