GoSS President said South Sudan will celebrate its independence on July 9 whether Khartoum recognizes it or not.

Salva Kiir Mayardit told the press today in Juba that the whole world witnessed the peaceful process the South went through to attain independence.

He added that South Sudan will declare its independence on July 9 as scheduled.

President Kiir added that he was aware of certain South Sudanese leaders and chiefs in the north who have been paid to sabotage the independence of the region.

He warned that any attempt to postpone the independence will have grave consequences.

North Sudan warned early this month that it would not recognize South Sudan’s independence if the Transitional Constitution included Abyei as part of its territory.
