Eastern Equatoria state Assembly condemned the attack on Abyei by the Sudan Armed Forces in an extraordinary sitting yesterday.
Information and Telecommunication Committee chairperson Joseph Lokodo Colombos told Emmanuel Radio that the sixth extraordinary sitting of the Assembly was chaired by speaker Ambrose Emmanuel Ocholimoi.The MPs wrote that the Abyei invasion was a violation of the Abyei Protocol of the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed between the SPLM and the Khartoum government.
Mr. Lokodo explained that the MPs expressed deep concern about the people of Abyei.
The members of the state Assembly said President Omar al-Bashir is the commander in chief of the Sudan Armed Forces and his attack on Abyei was tantamount to aggression and genocide.
They added that with the attack Mr. al-Bashir intended to disrupt preparations for the independence of the Republic of South Sudan.
They also condemned the presidential decree dissolving the Abyei Administrative Authority.
