The Government of Lakes State has expressed solidarity with the people of Abyei following its seizure by Northern forces last weekend.
Lakes State Minister of Information Marik Nanga Marik told Good News Radio that his government condemned the attack on the people of Abyei.The minister expressed the solidarity of Lakes State citizens with the people of Abyei, appealing to the international community to exert pressure on President Omar Al-Bashir to withdraw his troops from the region.
He called for the immediate implementation of the Abyei Protocol enshrined in the CPA, including the referendum.
Mr. Nanga called on the people of Lakes State to assist the Abyei displaced with food and non-food items.
He said the generous contributions will be channelled through the office of the Secretary General.
The Lakes State government will also give its contribution.
Mr. Nanga insisted on a peaceful resolution to this border conflict, clarifying that Lakes State government advocates for dialogue and not war.
He called on the citizens of Lakes State to remain calm while dialogue is resumed between the Juba and Khartoum governments.
