The employees at the University of Bahr el Ghazal in Western Bahr el Ghazal state, on Friday, announced a 3-day strike as the first current step to demand their arrears payment from the National Ministry of Finance.

The Chairperson of the Workers Union, Al-Rabi Adam Hamed confirmed that the union began the strike by halting lectures and closing all lecture halls.

Al-Rabie said that the general conditions at the university are stable and that there is no violence from the staff and students because their strike is peaceful.

Al-Rabie Adam said the strike will continue for three days, according to the union’s strike laws.

He said that there is no positive feedback from the Ministry of Finance or the national government regarding their demands.

Adam said that lecturers are suffering from economic hardship to the extent that they cannot stand for a single lecture for three hours due to the situation.

He appealed to the government to respond to their three demands because if the strike continues, it will affect the university’s annual academic calendar.

The chairperson of the Workers Union made these remarks to Voice of Hope Radio in Wau.
