UPPER NILE FACES FOOD SHORTAGE DUE ROADS CLOSURE

Officials in Renk County of Upper Nile state said that there has been an increase in prices of goods due to the closure of roads linking the state with Khartoum.

Speaking on a line from Upper Nile, Renk Commissioner Deng Akwei said the roads linking to the north were closed early this month and the reasons remain unknown.

Kuot Madhor Kuot who is the director of external trade in the ministry of trade and commerce said the situation is not likely to cease because of insecurity in the areas.

He also said the state is far from Juba that easily connects to East Africa which is the main supplier of food and non food products.

The Minister of Foreign Trade in the government of National Unity, Elias Nyamlell Wakoson said on the phone that the closure of the border is illegal.

A source in Malakal, the capital town of Upper Nile state says that most goods have gone up by more than three or four Sudanese pounds.
