The Eastern Equatoria State Governor Louis Lobong Lojore has promised to create a new Payam at Kuron Village in memory of the late Bishop Emeritus Paride Taban.
This came during the requiem Mass in Toirt over the weekend where hundreds of mourners seen off Bishop Paride laid to rest at Sts. Peter and Paul.
Hon. Lobong appealed to both the Church leaders and the national government to join hands in order to build the memorial sites for the late Emeritus Bishop Paride Taban.
He says Kuron Peace Village will be promoted into a payam if the Catholic Church uplifts it to the parish to ensure those in the area get full services.
Governor Lobong says the government will provide funds to build a peace Institute in Kuron and the church will take the lead in the construction process to remember Bishop Paride.
The Eastern Equatoria State Governor further appealed for the establishment of a technical vocational and agricultural institution in Opari Village of the late Bishop Emeritus Paride Taban as his remembrance.
Cardinal Stephen Ameyu Martin described Bishop Paride Taban as a wise man and elder who accompanied his sheep together and called the mourners to celebrate his lifetime.
He said despite the difficult situation in the then Sudan Government, Bishop Paride Taban struggled to build, develop, and strengthen the faith of the diocese of Torit through evangelization.
Cardinal Ameyu further revealed that the late bishop started the Catholic Diocese of Torit with only five priests which has multiplied to over 70 priests.
Cardinal Ameyu said the memories of cooperation, unity, and relationship of working together as a mentor will strengthen the entire population to remember the late Emeritus, Bishop Paride Taban.
Vice President James Wani Igga welcomed the calls to build memorial schools for the Late Bishop Emeritus Bishop Paride Taban. He says the catholic was a multitasked individual who does not focus only on doing his pastoral duty but supports communities in different ways.
VP. Igga pledged government support to the initiative that could keep the legacy of Paride Taban in South Sudan.
The Catholic Emeritus Bishop Paride Taban died in Nairobi, Kenya on 1st November and was buried at Sts. Peter and Paul in Toirt on 9th November 2023.
