An SPLA major climbed a radio antenna in Juba and threatened to jump off and commit suicide.

Eyewitness Bakeri Bakeri told SCR News that the man identified as Maj. John Kong Nyang climbed the antenna around six AM.

He said that people thought he was a technician, but later realized he intended to commit suicide.

Bishok Choul from the ministry of Regional Cooperation said he knew major Kong personally and was surprised at his actions.

He explained that people said Major Kong had some issues with his wife and some relatives.

Mr. Nyang climbed down safely three hours latter.

However, Juba Mayor Mohammed Elhag Baballa was upset with the security personnel for harassing Major Kong when he climbed off the mast.

He said Mr. Nyang’s act was not a crime; it was a social problem that needs to be solved.

Major Kong is the fourth person to climb a mast threatening to commit suicide.
