A Member of Parliament representing the Twic Mayardit community of Warrap State, Honourable Madut Deng, has described the late bishop Emeritus Macram Max Gassis as a liberator.
The lawmaker said the country has lost a great liberator who has helped many people through the services he has been rendering to the Twic community.
Bishop Macram entered Twic Mayardit in 1999 and settled at Turalei, the Headquarters of Twic.
Lawmaker says Late Bishop brought developmental projects to the Twic community and Warrap state in general which included building schools, hospitals, bridges, and churches.
Deng stated that the services that the late Bishop rendered during his stay in Twic Mayardit, are still benefiting the community.
The late bishop constructed eight schools; five primary and three secondary schools. He has also built three churches; one in Wunrok, another in Ajakuach, and the other one in Mayen Abun plus one big hospital in Turalei.
Bishop Macram could hire teachers and health workers from neighboring countries like Uganda and Kenya, and cater for their services in full, like salaries, accommodation, and medical allowances, among others.
Deng appreciated the support of the Catholic Church and donors for supporting the legacy left by Bishop Macram.
The MP appeals for continued support towards the projects of the late bishop to continue delivering services to the community of Twic Mayardit.
The lawmaker reveals that Late Macram initiated the uncompleted project of the construction of the Teachers’ Training College in Turalei and now he urges the Catholic Church to complete the Teachers’ college.
Bishop Emeritus Macram Max Gassis, who was the Emeritus Bishop of El-Obeid and Darfur Diocese, Sudan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at the age of 84.
Bishop Macram was a champion for Sudanese Christians and a near-legendary figure in Sudan since he first spoke out against human rights abuses in his country before a global audience in 1992.
He was known for his humanitarian work, especially in the areas of education and healthcare, and his efforts to promote peace and reconciliation in Sudan.
