The Charge de’ Affairs of Apostolic Nunciature, Holy See Vatican Embassy in South Sudan, Monsignor Lonut Paul has called for gender equality and the promotion of women’s rights in the country.
Fr. Paul advised the faithful to respect mothers, and girls in the community, and promote gender equality in the country.
The Charge de’ Affairs visited the Bahr El Ghazel region this week to meet with Christians and government representatives. Thousands of faithful turn up in Wau, Western Bahr El Ghazel to welcome him.
Fr. Paul says women need to be respected, anyone who commits an offense against them does commit an offense against God.
He added that if we don’t respect grandmothers, mothers, women, and girls of this country then there will be no future.
“You’re like a seed that was planted so that one day will become a tree that will bring fruits, there are many challenges, but we are blessed by God to find a way of overcoming these challenges,” he said.
Paul hopes that the calls for respecting mothers can be accepted and allowed to grow so that they can cover the whole nation.
He pointed out that there are many challenges facing people but above all, God has blessed all of us with strength and the power to overcome these challenges.
The Vatican Charge’ de Affairs urged the believers the apply the biblical teaching of sharing with needy persons. He told the faithful to show the world that they have the spirit of sharing the little they have with those in need.
“Show the all the country, show the world that you can welcome the people who are coming here. From the little you’ve if you share it in a Christian way, you would help those who are coming to the state,” Fr. Paul said.
The special envoy of the Vatican to South Sudan was speaking to hundreds of faithful in Aweil town, Northern Bahr el Ghazel during his pastoral mission this week.
