Presidential guard killed two senior colleagues, turn gun to himself

A bodyguard of South Sudan’s Vice President for Economic cluster, James Wani Igga shot his colleagues killing one instantly injuring two others, and later shooting himself.

The incident occurred in the Residential compound of the Vice President at Hai Amarat in Juba on Friday.

Press Secretary in the Office of the Vice President Kasmiro Mogga, the soldier needs a payment of incentives for the SPLM retreat mission to Lainya last week.

“He was asking for his rights but was told to wait by the senior officers and he went inside and took a gun and shot at them,” he stated.

Mogga reveals that the soldier was not under the influence of Alcohol or drugs but he became annoyed when his senior Officers told him to wait so that they are able to look into his issue.

The soldier was reported to have been arguing with his senior officer on why others were paid while he was left out yet their names were on the list of those who went for the mission and have qualified incentives.

However, he did not disclose the amount on how much the decrease was supposed to be paid as an incentive.

According to Kashmir, the man had a little argument with his senior officers over the issue of the incentives.

Kashmir narrated that the officer who later killed himself entered the house and came out with an AK47 riffle he immediately opens fire on his colleagues killing a Lieutenant Colonel instantly leaving two others wounded, and committing suicide afterward.

The Press Secretary in the Office of the Vice President said the two wounded major officers are now nursing in the hospital.

According to Mogga, the situation had returned to normal and investigations are yet to be established to find the root cause of the shootout.

Last week, the Vice President of the Economic cluster, James Wani Igga together with Governor Emmanuel Adil was in Lainya county of Central Equatoria state for the SPLM retreat.
