The number of returnees from North Sudan has significantly decreased in the last weeks, the UN said.

UNMIS chief in South Sudan David Gressly told the press yesterday that more than 261,000 returnees were relocated in different counties across South Sudan since last October.

He added that the weekly return fell from 36,000 to 2,000 in recent weeks.

Mr. Gressly said the decline of returnees is due to the exhaustion of Government money to support the journey home.

South Sudan saw an upsurge of returnees late last year from North Sudan, mostly Khartoum, and some state governments are still struggling with their settlement in their places of origin.
