A technical committee has started work to reorganize policies and programmes for Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) Commission in the Republic of South Sudan.
DDR chairman William Deng Deng told journalists today in Juba that his commission stared the reformulation of programme policies for South Sudan to be presented to the Council of Ministers for approval before July 9.He said the DDR Commission and the SPLA three weeks ago formed a 10-member technical committee to review policies and programmes that will be carried out in the new state.
The Commission received 15 laptops and two printers from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) that will facilitate field work.
The DDR Commission started its activities in June 2009 and has demobilized 11,944 ex-combatants in six states during what they called phase one.
The UN lends technical assistance to the DDR Commission together with IOM.
