WATER IN SOUTH SUDAN YET UNDERDEVELOPED, SAYS UNDERSECRETARY

An official said water in South Sudan is still a potential that needs to be developed.

Isaac Liabwel is the undersecretary in GoSS water resources and irrigation ministry. He said water is among sectors that are not yet well exploited and his ministry is working in order to roll out water benefits to the people of South Sudan, Bakhita Radio reported.

Eng. Liabwel said his ministry is setting up a central laboratory to check out the quality of water drunk across the country.

He added that the government wants to prepare laws in order to safeguard water supplies including treatment and discharge of industrial effluents.

The undersecretary made these statements during the celebrations of the International Water Day which last Tuesday.

The date remains uncelebrated in South Sudan.
