Eastern Equatoria today joined the rest of the globe to mark World Water Day.

The state received gravity water project from Caritas, a Catholic humanitarian agency that operates in the state, in conjunction with the Catholic Diocese of Torit and other agencies.

According to the area manager of the gravity water project, Robin Taban, the water benefits about 4,000 households within a 20-kilometre radius.

World Water Day is the official UN-designated day dedicated to water issues.

The day is a key to champion the right of people everywhere to affordable, safe drinking water, close to home.

According to the UN, clean water reduces the spread of diarrheal diseases that kill 4,000 children per day.
