The director general of GoSS Ministry of Telecommunication and Postal Service said Zain Company was told to hold laying fiber optic cables in South Sudan until July 9.
Biar Koul Ayeun told SCR News that the government informed the giant mobile operator to uphold the contract of constructing fiber optic links and cell towers in the region until it gained full independence. He added that GoSS will award Zain with the lion’s share of communication contract in South Sudan.
However, senior excutive Hesham Mustafa Allam told Reuters yesterday that the decision to rollout in South Sudan was purely a strategic decision and not a business one.
He said because at that time they had Zain Uganda and Zain Kenya and so to have one network you couldn’t have it without South Sudan.
