An official from the Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference (SCBC) told SCR news that the bishops in Sudan will have an extraordinarily meeting before south Sudan is declared independent on 9th July this year.
Abraham Abayo, assistant secretary general for Sudan Catholic bishops conference, said that the meeting will discuss the role of the church in an independent south Sudan.He dismissed fears that the Church would perish in North Sudan after the independence.
President Omar al-Bashir said last year that North Sudan would be a Sharia law governed region after the south secedes.
The SCBC penary will take place in Juba from Abril 1 t0 7.
