UNICEF good will ambassadors visited children affected by Ugandan rebels in Western Equatoria State to find out the support they need and raise awareness for their plight.
Actress Mia Farrow told the press on Saturday in Juba that she met with Comboni Sister Giovanna at the Rainbow Center who looks after 78 children in Nzara.
The nun told the actress that the children who escape from the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) are traumatized because they were taught to beat and kill without mercy.
Ms. Farrow said Sister Giovanna called upon the international community to put an end to the LRA that destroys children’s lives and minds.
Martin Bell, BBC’s War Correspondent for more than 30 years, said he has never experienced such brutality like the LRA’s in any of the countries he has worked in.
He added that the LRA has a calculated and deliberate brutality where children become perpetrators and victims.
Mr. Bell criticized the international media for not playing a major role in reporting on the LRA crimes against children in South Sudan.
The UN said the LRA forced more than 25,000 people from their homes in south Sudan since they launched their attacks in Western Equatoria.
