One person was shot and wounded in Iloli village, confirmed the Chief of Iloli village in Hiyala Payam of Torit County in Eastern Equatoria State.
Chief Sisto Ofere tells Radio Emmanuel that the incident occurred at around 9:30 AM when the wounded person was taking care of his garden.
He alleges that the criminals are from Oguruny village after youth followed and traced the footmarks in the area.
“Something happened in my village yesterday, some two men from Oguruny village came and shoot a man wounded in his garden at 9.30 AM when he was chasing birds from his garden, he was taken yesterday to Torit, so we followed their foot marks up to a mountain call Omojolo, they climbed up the mountain and we cut a tree as a sign for the commissioner to come with some forces so that we can go direct to a place we put a mark”, chief Ofere explains.
The chief notes that there is no peaceful coexistence among the neighbouring villages despite peace dialogues conducted.
He advised youth in Iloli village to desist from revenge attacks and leave the case to concerned authority to handle.
“I did not call chief of Oguruny but a paramount chief to speak to him, this issue will really affect, we have seen peace dialogue has just been done but no one is responding to it, so now I really do not know it final solution or what will the government do to solve this issue, when the incident happen yesterday I told my youth not to go somewhere for revenge, but to wait for the government what will they do”, says the chief.
While the chief of Oguruny, Risio Otida says communication has been made to the commissioner of Torit County to thoroughly investigate the case to find the criminals.
“This issue we have communicated with commissioner, so this issue there is no one who can move like a bird or plane without foot marks, I want us to follow the foot marks going from Oguruny here to that place and where they ended after the shooting, even if to a place they put, we told our people of Oguruny not to go somewhere, we do not want to go somewhere even we don’t want revenge, so this people should look where the foot marks are going but if it is to us here we will their way”, he notes.
The speakers talked to Radio Emmanuel in a telephone interview from their respective villages on Tuesday.
