The people of South Sudan were encouraged to promote unity and go after issues that foster commonality rather than division.

Two representatives from a Spanish Catholic NGO called Manos Unidas who are on a visit to South Sudan told Good News Radio that they came with a message of solidarity and support.

Marta Mari said the successful referendum was an example to be followed by other countries, adding that the people of South Sudan deserve the best after enduring many years of war.

She encouraged the people of South Sudan to work together to build their new nation, insisting that individualism and differences do not favour progress.

Sofia Gortazar, on her part, expressed optimism about the development of South Sudan, although it will take time and hard work.

She added that Manos Unidas will continue to identify and support relevant programs in South Sudan.

Ms Gortazar said her organization is supporting the training nurses in Wau together with Solidarity with Southern Sudan.

She added that Manos Unidas plan to build a children’s ward at Juba Teaching Hospital and repair the Loreto Girls Secondary School in Rumbek.

Manos Unidas is a partner of Sudan Catholic Radio Network and it is supporting Emmanuel Radio, in Torit. It plans to fund some training for Good News Radio staff in Rumbek.
