SPLA soldiers and forces loyal to commander Olony committed serious abuses against defenseless civilians during clashes in Oweci village, in Upper Nile, that started last Sunday.

Local sources told SCR News that at least five young men were reported missing and are feared dead after being arrested and blindfolded by SPLA soldiers.

In another incident, one SPLA soldier opened fire on a group of children gathered for Sunday prayer in the local chapel killing a number of them.

On the militias’ side, combatants entered private houses and shot at women who were hiding during the battle.

One woman who was shot and became paralyzed was taken to Juba for treatment.

The SPLA spokesman said more than 60 fighters were killed in the clashes, mostly from Mr. Olony’s side.

Malakal is under curfew from 8PM until dawn since Sunday.
