Chiefs call for peaceful coexistence in Hiyala Payam

The village chiefs in Hiyala Payam of Torit County in Eastern Equatoria State have called for peaceful coexistence among villages in the Eastern part of Torit County for total peace to reign in the area.

According to Radio Emmanuel, the Payam have been experiencing massive loss of lives of innocent civilians, rape cases, road robberies, stealing and cattle raiding since late last year that has created fear to citizens and road users.

The chief of Hiyala Payam John Oromo Oriha says there are no more cases of insecurity happening since the attack that took place along Hiyala-Iloli, Oguruny road early this month.

He says if peace reigns in the area people will work with happiness.

“Do not have a problem we are okay since the shooting that happened along Hiyala-Oguruny road when a boy was shot dead that is the last, this day there is nothing, the goodness of it is that, people will be happy and they will do their works with happiness without thinking of enemies coming to kill me, the only thing let us stay in peace fighting is not good, you may go somewhere kill someone or steal something from there that person will also come to our village getting someone he will also kill someone so it has no benefit”, he recalls.

Jalabio Tiya, tchief of Haforiere village says the Monyomiji youth are doing their best to ensure that culprits of crimes are punished according to the law.

Last week, four identified criminals from alleged Haforiere village shot a business person along Hiyala-Kapoeta in Horse River which he says they have been ordered to compensate for the damages caused in the vehicle.

In preparation for the handing over ceremony to the new generation known as Effira that happens after every twenty-two years, the chief of Iloli village Sisto Ofere calls on his community to embrace peace because they are the host community.

He says inter-communal conflicts are a contributing factor to underdevelopment.

The chief of Ilieu village Aurelio Jamus Otii says peace is paramount because it brings stability among neighbours.

He calls on South Sudanese and the population in Eastern Equatoria State to prioritize peace and embark on agricultural activities.

The village chiefs spoke to Radio Emmanuel in a telephone interview from their respective villages on Wednesday.
