Business in Torit town has slowed down following fears of counterfeit pound notes in circulation.
Consumers are stranded with one pound notes most traders reject fearing it is fake money.Mr. Usukari Michael, a business man in Torit, told Emmanuel Radio that he faced the same problem in Juba, where he was given false one pound bills.
The public remains in total confusion as no government official has come up yet to clear the fears.
Fake five pounds notes are also reported to be in circulation.
Mr. Livingstone Kibizo, the chairman of foreign traders who operates a restaurant, was another victim of the fake notes.
Customers eating at his restaurant pay for the food with false money that he cannot use.
Small scale and whole sale retailers and prospective customers say they are in total confusion over the origin of the alleged fake money.
