Lives of students at Dr. John Garang Memorial in Torit town are at risk due to cracked walls in the classrooms.
The school blocks were built less than three years ago but its walls at cracking in several areas including the beam and the foundations, Emmanuel Radio reported. The state government raised concern over the cracks and blamed them on poor workmanship.
Education minister Michael Lopuke Lotyam lamented that the cracks increase each passing day and during extreme weather conditions.
Mr. Lopuke revealed that the contractors will have to account for the poor work, saying the state government cannot afford to lose structures meant to last one hundred years in five years.
The minister added that the classrooms have to be sealed off not to risk lives.
Mr. Lopuke said contracts awarded by the government of South Sudan are the most affected, but the state government will sue the constructors for liability.
Eastern Equatoria state government last year established a committee to set up criteria to award contracts, oversee constructions and blacklist contractors with poor workmanship.
