CITIZEN NEWSPAPER RAIDED BY SECURITY PERSONNEL

The Citizen newspaper was raided Sunday night by four security men in plain clothes.

The newspaper published in yesterday’s edition that security operatives threatened to beat the printing personnel and arrested a driver, identified as Madeng Kout, on Sunday √ɬê who is reportedly still missing.

Owner Nhial Bol complained that there was nothing nothing published in the daily that may have provoked the disapproval of the security.

He added that the incident was a direct attack on freedom of expression.

It remains unclear who authorised the raid on The Citizen and why.

The Citizen is being printed in Juba since February 9, 2011, after relocating from Khartoumn to escape state control over its contents.
