Eastern Equatoria lacks qualified teachers and schools to improve the education in the state.

Education minister Michael Lopuke Lotyam lamented that many schools were built only up to primary four and pupils are not able to advance to upper classes unless they travel long distances to access education, Emmanuel Radio reported.

He appealed to the policy and decision makers in the government and partners in the education sector to focus on building infrastructure to solve these challenges.

Mr. Lopuke said lack of space forces some school administrations to house three to four classes in one room and it causes disturbances to teachers.

The ministry also decried the lack of qualified teachers to provide quality education together with accommodation problems to transfer teachers from one county to another.

Genesis Ohide, an official in the education ministry, said schools in Magwi County perform better than in their counterparts in other counties due to availability of qualified teachers.

He added that parents in Magwi County also contribute to establishing schools and building houses for teachers.
