An aid group is reaching out to the returnees in Lakes State with a programme targeting their children.

James Otto Alino from Save the Children told Good News Radio that the group plans to establish what he called “child-friendly spacing” to enable kids to take part in different kinds of sports, drama and dances besides lessons in English language.

He said the programme will kick off when the returnees are permanently settled.

Mr. Otto said this team conducted workshops targeting children and their parents to inform them about South Sudan and on issues of child rights and child protection.

Mr. Otto appealed to the local community to be hospitable to the returnees, explaining that it would ensure better integration.

He also said that he opposed the establishment of separate schools for returnee children.

Up to 200 returnees are still camping at Comboni Primary School in Rumbek awaiting permanent resettlement, a situation that is going to create logistical difficulties given that the school is set to reopen within one week.
