The Catholic Diocese of Rumbek has identified reconciliation and trauma healing as leading pastoral priorities during 2011.

Bishop Caesar Mazzolari presented to Good News Radio listeners the priorities from the diocesan assembly that concluded on Thursday.

Bishop Mazzolari said his diocese will work to bring divided groups together, and reconciliation and peace building initiatives will also involve the identification of the root causes of divisions like greed, corruption, love of power, and tribalism.

He also said that the diocese will promote common human values to help bring about peaceful co-existence between clans, tribes, creeds, gender and social status.

Bishop Mazzolari said Church personnel resolved to sensitise and build awareness about the need of healing.

The Bishop added that the diocese will train more counsellors to be involved in trauma healing initiatives.

The other two main priorities for Rumbek diocese during this year include the deepening of constructive relationships with the government to ensure active participation of the members of the Church in nation building.

The Chuch personnel will also work with returnees to integrate them into the social and pastoral life.
