Eastern Equatoria governor called on women to unite ahead of the independence of South Sudan next July.

Louis Lobong Lojore made the call yesterday during the closing ceremony of a three-day reorganization conference of women in the state, Emmanuel Radio reported.

Mr. Lobong cautioned Eastern Equatoria citizens not to be used as curtain raisers of any war that does not have the common interests of the nation.

The governor condemned the recent fighting in Jonglei state, saying it was a brutal and barbaric act that should not occur in Eastern Equatoria state.

Mr. Lobong advised political contenders to wait for the time of elections to run for the constitutional posts.

The governor addressed the women on his arrival from Juba after meeting with the governors of Central and Western Equatoria.
