Sr. Mary Mumu is the Coordinator of Women’s Desk in Rumbek diocese. In her report to the Rumbek diocese annual assembly, Sr. Mumu said that St. Monica’s Women Association aims at fighting illiteracy among women, raising their dignity and self-esteem and reducing poverty, Good News Radio reported.
She added that the association promotes the independence of women, personal responsibility, and self-determination, besides bringing awareness about the value of educating girls.
Sr. Mumu also reported on the activities carried out during the past year, including daily prayer, civic education, adult literacy classes, and dressmaking to generate income.
She complained that many women lost all their crops to wandering animals, explaining that men responsible for the herds enjoyed continued impunity from the courts.
Kaitlyn Jantzi, the assistant coordinator of the Women’s desk, said the success of the various women activities was due to the personal efforts of the bishop together with the interest and collaboration of the Church personnel.
