European Union development minsters will meet on Tuesday in Brussels, Belgium, to discuss ways to free funds for the development of South Sudan among other issues.

The EU has blocked close to one billion Sudanese Pounds of aid for the Sudan until Khartoum signs the Cotonou Agreement that governs the EU’s development aid to the world’s poorest countries.

South Sudan is expected to sign the Agreement within one year.

EU technocrats are exploring what interim ways might be used to provide much and urgently needed development funding to South Sudan.
