Education officials from three counties in Lakes State are receiving training on radio programmes for long distance teaching.

The training kicked off on Monday in Rumbek.

Ali Muga, a senior coordinator for Education Development Centre, told Good News Radio that the participants at the training come from Rumbek East, Rumbek Central and Wulu counties.

He added that the workshop aims at equipping the education officials with the knowledge and background of South Sudan Interactive Radio Instruction (SSIRI) system.

Mr. Muga said additional training will be provided for teachers involved in following the pupils during classes and facilitators for the radio education programmes targeting adults.

David Deng Agook from Lakes State education ministry welcomed the school radio programmes saying they helped both children at school and adults who listen at home.

William Kochi, who is taking part in the workshop, urged SSIRI to extend the radio programs to the remaining counties of Lakes State for the larger community to benefit from the long distance learning transmissions.

This year, SSIRI plans to transmit its education programs on Good News Radio in Rumbek and Voice of Love in Malakal.

The program was expanded to include pupils from primary one to primary three.
