The annual assembly of the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek started yesterday with a day of reflection and prayer ahead of nine-day long meeting.
Fr. Fernando Colombo, a Comboni Missionary responsible for the Pastoral, Liturgical and Catechetical institute of the diocese presided over the day of recollection.He told Good News Radio that his reflection was based on a book with a collection of interviews Pope Benedict gave to a German journalist.
Fr. Colombo said the book helps readers to meditate on the current situation of the Catholic Church in the world.
He urged the Church personnel to read the entire book, adding that it gives an update overview of the challenges and hopes from the Pope’s viewpoint.
Fr. Colombo insisted that pastoral agents need to be up-to-date in order to explain the faith to others in a way that it can be understood.
He also stressed on the need to continually link faith and reason, challenging those involved in evangelization to make faith understandable by announcing what he described as “a living and challenging message”.
Each community in the Diocese of Rumbek received a copy of the book Light of the World: The Pope, the Church, and the Signs of the Times.
The day of prayer was concluded by the Eucharistic celebration presided over by Bishop Caesar Mazzolari marking the feast of St. Josephine Bakhita.
