Rumbek School for Community Certified Nurses reopened for the second semester with 26 students resuming their courses yesterday in Rumbek and Mapuordit.
Lucia Sorrentino, who heads the NGO sponsoring the school, told Good News Radio that 11 second-year students reported in Rumbek, while 15 first-year students are already in Mapuordit, a rural hospital owned by the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek in Yirol East County.Ms Sorrentino said that the administration is organizing interviews for a new batch of first-year students.
She added that the nursing course is open to all young Sudanese people, inviting applications from interested candidates for the 20 places available.
She said candidates have to present a Secondary School Certificate and a birth certificate or a document showing their age.
Shadrack Nuer Machut, a second-year student, said he enjoys the nursing course very much, adding that the local community will profit from his profession as a nurse.
He called on young Sudanese to apply for the new intake since the new country of South Sudan will require professionals.
The Nursing School is sponsored by the International Committee for the Development of Peoples, an Italian NGO, in collaboration with Lakes State Ministry of Health and the Health Department of the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek.
