Lakes State and Unity State have agreed to collaborate in the supply of basic commodities, including fuel and foodstuff.
Lakes State Governor, Chol Tong Mayay, told yesterday the press that the two states agreed to help each other get critical commodities, Good News Radio reported.He added that Unity State will supply fuel to Lakes State while foodstuff imported from East Africa will flow into Unity State through Lakes State.
Eng. Tong said the road between Rumbek and Bentiu is being fixed with new bridges to be used throughout the year.
The Governor said he banned illegal tax collectors, including police at checkpoints, some public security officers, RAM Company, and traffic police to favour trade with Unity State.
He appealed to the relevant authorities to supply the market with US Dollars so traders are able to import much needed goods from East Africa.
Eng. Tong suggested the use of Kenyan and Ugandan shillings like during the war to help traders restock their shops and stabilize prices in the market during this time of transition.
The prices of goods in many parts of South Sudan have skyrocketed and ordinary citizens are concerned about their survival if the situation persists.
